A video of ATEEZ members singing a contentious song recently went viral. Since then, their business has reacted.

This particular tune is the infamous “Curry.” The K-Pop duo Norazo launched the song “Curry” almost ten years ago, and it quickly became popular in South Korea. But there’s no denying that “Curry” is divisive and difficult. South Asian culture is negatively stereotyped in the lyrics and choreography. Even the original music video featured the pair in brownface.

Wonwoo from SEVENTEEN performed “Curry” in an episode of the group’s well-liked variety show Going Seventeen three years ago. Jo Bin, a member of Norazo, spoke up about the song at the time since he had seen Wonwoo receiving criticism. “The writing I wrote is not intended to encourage disputes,” he stated as the caption for his social media post. I wanted everybody to feel at ease. Sorry. The feedback window must be closed without your input. Each other’s opinions can be contested in the opinion window! May we be viewed by everyone with compassion and love. Without a doubt, we’ll develop positively.

Norazo are not racist and do not insult religions! I’ve heard from people of Indian descent today that curry is not a part of real Indian food. The reason why I ended up working on the song without checking the facts was because I lived in Korea while knowing false information about the history of curry, so I was taught to think, ‘Curry is Indian food!’ As a result, I did not realize what the words I used to express India as a homeland actually meant and how sacred they were! This was surely my mistake!

All we wanted to do was let it be known that curry is a delicious food that anybody can enjoy through our Norazo style! I want to say that we didn’t write the song with the intent to put anyone down or cut down the culture or tradition of a precious country!

From now on, we’ll be sure to be singers who make and sing songs with proper information! We apologize to people of India and Southern Asia who were hurt by this! And lastly, just like us, our hoobae singers didn’t know it could be conveyed that way!

We hope that this song, which was ignorant about another country’s tradition, will not hurt our hoobae singers who are on their world tour while loving the fans and cultures of other countries!

Despite this, “Curry” has persisted in being performed and has let down the fandoms of idols. STAYC’s Sieun and Sumin faced backlash for singing the song in April of this year.

Due to two members of ATEEZ singing the obscene “Curry” song, ATINYs are now miffed. K-Pop fans see ATEEZ as one of the few artists or groups who are neither controversial nor have a track record of engaging in disrespectful conduct or cultural appropriation.

Yesterday, MBC R <IDOL RADIO> published a behind-the-scenes video. In a split second, San is singing and dancing to “Curry.” Offscreen, a fellow member named Yunho can be heard gently singing along because he was the one who brought it up first. ATINYs claims that he said, “DJ San sounds like shanti,” which caused San to start singing.

So, ATINYs promptly used social media, such as Twitter and the b.stage app, to get in touch with the group’s members and their business, KQ Entertainment, about the song’s unfavorable content. Some people have noted that Seonghwa has already mentioned “Curry.”

KQ Entertainment reacted to ATINYs’ worries in less than 24 hours. The firm tweeted a thread in which it claimed that one or more of its artists had “unknowingly hurt” ATINYs as a result of their activities. KQ Entertainment then apologized on their behalf and pledged to provide information.

The fandom’s response to KQ Entertainment’s announcement has been polarized. Many fans want the musicians to address the issue directly.

In response to the video, MBC Idol Radio Korea has also issued a statement. The corporation admitted that it should have been originally edited out.

Hello, this is Idol Radio. In the behind-the-scenes video released on July 8, a scene with the “Curry” song was included. We apologize for the inconvenience to viewers around the world regarding the scene. Although it was not our intention, we feel deeply responsible for not being able to catch it during the editing process. We will be aware of this issue so that it does not happen again in the future. We will continue to think about better content to repay your interest and support for Idol Radio.
